JanWho are you really? Are you really who you think you are? Think about it. For 13 years I allowed my career as a Social Worker to define me. Is this you? Do you know this person that I was? It’s kind of sad to say but before September 1st 2012, I really didn’t have a specific dream or passion. I mean everyone wants to win a million dollars. Everyone has the dream for a job or a house and security but is that really your passion? I feel that a passion or dream is something you wouldn’t mind waking up everyday to do. This passion or dream would make you excited and driven with the thought of doing it. On 10/25/12, I was invited to present my first Support Perspective Educate Create Simplicity Connection Respect Empower Words Educates program at Burr School in Hartford, CT. This was a great day to empower the 6th-8th graders about their dreams, how their thoughts create their realities and the power of their own innate creative abilities.
In the morning, from 9 am-12 pm, Art Teacher Sharon Bailey,accompanied me to over 15 classrooms. She introducing Specs Crew as a creative movement and informed the students that they will be able to be apart of it by having their very own Specs Crew member photo. The children were very excited to know that they were going to be apart of something special. I was able to briefly speak to them about my dream on 9.1.12, about the eye and how I discovered that I could paint.

OctAs I lay in my bed I anxiously anticipate the launching of my site. To think on 9/1/12, I dreamt about an eye and now I had a business. I move to the left to sip my water and feel a shock down my back and legs from the nerve I pinched weeks earlier. I reveal that I’m only 35 but for the past 3 weeks I’ve been moving slow and steady from bedroom to kitchen and couch due to my back injury.
I surf the web on my Galaxy 2 smart phone looking for a distributor of the cycling hats made famous by Spike Lee as the Mars Blackman character in the 1980’s. As I close out a window I read the headlines on MSN.com that Lance Armstrong was stripped of his Tour de France titles. That sucks for him as he inspired so many people over the years achieving the unimaginable only to fall from the very top of his self-made mountain of shame.

The vision of Specs Crew came from a dream…yes a dream. On the night of 9/1/12, Kareem dreamt of an eye looking at me. What did this eye mean? Why was this eye still in his thoughts after he woke up? He didn’t know the answers to his questions. He found his self going to the craft store that day and ending up in the paint aisle. As he stood there he thought, “What if I painted the eye that I saw?”
