Wow what a year

what up Spec

On 8/15/13, my first solo art and photography exhibit went up at the Conrad L. Mallett Gallery in Capital Community College in Hartford, CT.  A year ago I was just stuck in the grips of life. Today after picking up my art I had this awesome feeling of happiness shoot through me. Over the past year Specs Crew has helped me grow on many levels. It has allowed me an outlet that I had not had before.  It introduced me to hundreds of new people and allowed me to gain many new friends and reconnect with old ones. Specs Crew helped me smile and bring others joy.

Specs Crew brought me closer to my family and children. My wife Carla and daughters Maitê and Tainá gave me space to create and grow. My girls now tell their friends that their father is an artist, author and Social Worker. One of their friends even thinks I am a DJ because of my hair and specs I wear when I pick them up from school. I now feel that it was only a matter of time that I was going to rediscover my abilities. With Specs Crew I created my own little world. If I’m not painting I’m specing. If I’m not specing I’m creating new characters for the comic. If I’m not sketching I’m writing. I now feel ready to begin writing my 2nd book.

This year I have some exciting projects I’m working on. I will be developing a comic strip with some of the characters I have been creating. I’m going to begin the animation process as well. I have a short film that I will shoot with Hawk T. Poet title Enter the Spec.  In November you can catch me at Open Studio in Hartford. Today is a good day. Yesterday was also a good day. As my brother Abdul would say-Never Stop Dreaming.
